Not sure, the "term" is a period of time cuz may be, one term could be 2 or 3 semesters

"course" has the same meaning with "term" but it's often used in describing "how much time do you use to learn this object?"

term:one of the periods of time into which the year is divided for students. In the UK, there are usually three terms: the autumn term, the spring term, and the summer term.
semester: one of the two periods of about 18 weeks that the school year is divided into in some countries, for example the US.
According to Macmillan English Dictionary We easily see the difference between them
