Unrealistic marksmanship.
Let’s set the scene. We’re in the midst of a great action movie. The protagonist is hiding behind an old car with gunshots ringing out all around him. He looks around, uncertain where to go as the enemies draw closer. But, in the distance, his companion beckons to him. Suddenly, the protagonists sprints to his friend, dodging bullets left and right. After a brief, adrenaline pulsing moment, he arrives in safety.
I hate these scenes.
The protagonist avoiding bullets from trained shooters is ubiquitous in action movies and it makes no sense. I could understand an untrained gunner missing shots at our protagonist. I could even fathom a single trained shooter missing the main character. But, it seems impossible that a barrage of well-trained individuals could continue to miss one person running in the open.
What bugs me even more is that the same protagonist who constantly avoids getting shot also probably learned to shoot nearly immediately (probably during a training montage). The protagonist almost never misses their shot during the climax of the movie while others who have trained for years constantly miss theirs.
That bugs me a lot.
